Lady Daisey at Capones - Part 1 - Two strikes for Capones

Capones - Strike 1, Strike 2

I got an e-mail newsletter from Capones earlier this week, highlighting Lady Daisey kicking off her Canadian Tour at Capones (not exactly, as they'd be on Vancouver Island the day before, on September 1st). I took a boo at the Lady Daisey (and Batsauce) website, and their catchy single "Soul Strut" made me want to go. I was pretty excited about it and thought to make a night of it, inviting friends and all.

Turned out none of my friends could come out. Which, curiously enough, was actually good news. The universe has an odd way of protecting me sometimes, and this was one of those times.

The newsletter and website for Capones said it'd start 7:30pm. I got there shortly before 7:30pm and onstage was another act, "Terminal Station". No sign of Lady Daisey and Batsauce. I'm sure things happen and maybe the boat from Vancouver Island was delayed. Whatever. The point is, nothing got going until 9 pm.

Now, if you've never been in this sort of position before, it's extremely awkward. You're here for a particular show, but discover it won't be on for a couple of hours. This hasn't happened to me since the Red Room a few years ago. Only that time, the bizarre freakshow entertainment they had scheduled were actually on site, but they waited hours until a more reasonable audience showed up and no apology or entertainment in the meantime for everyone who was actually on time.

Anyway, I'm counting that as strike 1 for Capones. I mean, what if my friends had actually showed up to hear Lady Daisey? My rep was on the line!

When I got home I checked the website for Capones. It still said 7:30pm (I was out of the house by 5:30pm on errands, so I'm allowing that it might have changed later). I checked the Lady Daisey site, and that said 9pm. Swell.

And Strike 2? Well, the website showed a "bites" menu and I was interested in the candied salmon pizza ("Candied smoked salmon, crystallized lemon zest and crème fraîche, chives"). When I asked for that menu, it turned out it wasn't available. Not because it was a lunch thing -- it just wasn't available period.
WTF? Can they not take it off the website, then? This was doubly disappointing because it really did sound intriguing and tasty.

In part 2, I'll finally get to the actual performance. (Really, I will!)

  1. Simon! I'm so sorry to hear you had to wait so long! There was much confusion about the show and yes, things were delayed. Fortunately, we were still able to perform, albeit later than advertised. My apologies on Capone's behalf for the inconvenience. We're playing at Falconetti's tonight, and according to my itinerary, our stage time is 10pm. I do hope it's accurate, and I also hope you can come out and see the show so we can try this again. ;) Peace & sunshine from Lady Daisey

  2. @Lady Daisey - No worries. I'm worked Friday night so I couldn't make it out to Falconetti's, but I hope things went well, considering that they were still showing on their website a start time of 9pm.
(Gawd... Are all the website admins on summer holidays or asleep at the wheel? :-)

Best wishes for your Canadian tour!

Meet Melissa Gaines and her blurry sexy pics

Oh boy! I had no sooner finished posting about the lovely Taylor Burch responding to my personals ad on Craigslist when Melissa Gaines (e-mailing from erikmcclure858@yahoo.com) mailed me a couple more pictures of her lithe body and selling her profile on the same looks-like-a-phishing-scam site (http://craigslistsafe.net/profiles/melx3/). One of them was an NSFW naked-breasts pic which I haven't posted here (sorry -- but honestly, nothing to write home about, especially with the serious bikini tan lines). Here's the e-mail exchange: Melissa e-mail #1 Here is my picture as attached. Please e-mail me details what you are looking for along with your pictures. Thanks and waiting to hear from you soon. Trafalgar's European Explorer 2006 memoirs part 3

A picture from my 2006 trip, a Trafalgar 's bus tour, on an itinerary called the European Explorer. I can't remember why I had this couple in the picture, but I do vaguely remember this to be in London, on the first official day of the tour group getting together. Their insistence on my helping them take a picture caused the three of us to be late getting back to the bus. The local tour guide had a "rule" about lateness, that we had to buy chocolate to share with everyone. As it turned out, later in the trip, on at least two occasions, we were stuck on the highway on either a long commute or a traffic jam, and I had chocolate and chocolate-covered marzipan to share. About the chocolate-covered marzipan -- Apparently we were in Austria just as they were celebrating Mozart's birthday with special marzipans wrapped in foil with the famous composer's picture. I'm pretty sure it was Mirabell Mozartkugeln . Anyway, there were enough to go around the en

Trafalgar's European Explorer 2006 memoirs part 10

The last of my pictures (at least the ones that survived the cheesy disposable cameras) from my 2006 trip, a Trafalgar 's bus tour, on an itinerary called the European Explorer. Below is the obligatory group photo. Not sure everyone's in it, actually. I'm pretty sure this one was taken by the tour director, Mike Scrimshire as I'm in the back row, on the right side.
