Keefer Bar Happy Hour

The Keefer Bar Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato Got dragged to the Keefer Bar for their happy hour (Sunday to Friday). Not a bad deal (2-for-1 food) except you have to buy a drink with it and I'm not a drinker. So she had the drink, I had a non-alcoholic beverage, we shared the two food plates -- and somehow we ended up splitting the bill in half which meant I walked out feeling having overpaid. Which was actually not the case.

Food is okay with some nice points and there's a decent selection of gluten-free choices. Nothing that really stands out but decent in taste and portion at full price -- meaning it's really good value during 2-for-1 happy hour, which is at a very convenient 5pm-7pm -- dinner right after work.
It's all small plates and it doesn't look like you can put together a dinner, but you actually CAN and at a good price during happy hour! So just patiently order and order again. Two of the larger plates can possibly add up to a fairly filling meal and you're topping it at $10 for two plates during happy hour.

Tacos ($10 for two tacos; choose from 3 flavours)
  • We opted for the Lapsang Smoked Pork Taco. Looks like pulled pork but it's NOT! It's smoked! So don't expect gratuitous savory-sweet BBQ sauce.
  • Sample it first of course but I definitely recommend both the lime and a bit of the sweet onion relish.

2017-Aug-8 Keefer Bar - Peking Duck Sliders

Peking Duck Sliders ($10 for two)
  • Doesn't look like much so open it up and hopefully you'll find what I did -- a generously thick slab of duck.
  • Works out to slightly more than a burger.
  • Cucumber cilantro pineapple relish inside mostly tasted like pineapple, and not so much of it to cover up your duck. Pretty good combo with the duck.
  • Tender, moist duck. But where's my tasty Peking Duck skin? Isn't that the point of Peking duck?

I tried to sit up my duck slab to show you how thick it is. You do have to also take in account the slice not being fully the same circumference of the bun though.

Fantasy Island #2 ($14) Absolut Elyx, Happy wine, pomegranate, strawberry rhubarb tea, lemon egg white
  • My friend's drink order. She was happy enough with it to consider getting something else but in the end we opted for more food.

Fantasy Island blend, soda ($6)
  • Supposedly similar to the cocktail but minus the alcohol.
  • Waste of time. A fruity pop (like Fanta, maybe) would have been cheaper and tasted better.

Trafalgar's European Explorer 2006 memoirs part 3

A picture from my 2006 trip, a Trafalgar 's bus tour, on an itinerary called the European Explorer. I can't remember why I had this couple in the picture, but I do vaguely remember this to be in London, on the first official day of the tour group getting together. Their insistence on my helping them take a picture caused the three of us to be late getting back to the bus. The local tour guide had a "rule" about lateness, that we had to buy chocolate to share with everyone. As it turned out, later in the trip, on at least two occasions, we were stuck on the highway on either a long commute or a traffic jam, and I had chocolate and chocolate-covered marzipan to share. About the chocolate-covered marzipan -- Apparently we were in Austria just as they were celebrating Mozart's birthday with special marzipans wrapped in foil with the famous composer's picture. I'm pretty sure it was Mirabell Mozartkugeln . Anyway, there were enough to go around the en

Trafalgar's European Explorer 2006 memoirs part 10

The last of my pictures (at least the ones that survived the cheesy disposable cameras) from my 2006 trip, a Trafalgar 's bus tour, on an itinerary called the European Explorer. Below is the obligatory group photo. Not sure everyone's in it, actually. I'm pretty sure this one was taken by the tour director, Mike Scrimshire as I'm in the back row, on the right side.

Trafalgar's European Explorer 2006 memoirs part 9

More assorted couples on my 2006 trip, a Trafalgar 's bus tour, on an itinerary called the European Explorer. An American couple who joked about being from "the land of the giants" -- and with good reason, because both of them were really tall! A cute Jewish mother-daughter pair who ducked out part-way to divert to Israel. I vaguely remember the issue of the daughter being an orthodox Jew was highlighted in France when, to make things easy, she just declared herself vegetarian for the wait staff. I also remember there was some logistics error in France because our party size was way underestimated or simply relayed incorrectly, and there was a shortage of food at dinner. Dessert came as an unopened can of yogurt. It did not seem like they tried to make it up to us later, either. Plus there was smoking every which way in France, and I had a helluva time with that. We were also in a hotel that seemed tucked away in the burbs, and not walking distance from anythin
