The Fried Chicken Works - boneless chicken 12-piece combo

Very crispy chicken! But also not your typical crispy fried chicken, so if you're used to KFC, be careful about assuming you'll like The Fried Chicken Works . I figured I'd want to eat it piping hot so I opted for their handy boneless option. If you've ever held a drumstick that had only minutes before come out of the fryer, hoping to eat the chicken while it's still hot and juicy, you'll know what a literal pain it is to hold onto the heat-retaining bone. Price for portion is a bit scary at around $1.50 per chunk of chicken but you get a drink with that, a not insignificant amount of really decently done fries, and there's more filling meat here than a gourmet burger for the same price. Apparently fried to order, and I got to eat it hot and juicy. The crispiness appears to mainly come from the skin-on chicken. The chicken skin/fat is fried to literally a crisp and there's nothing fatty or chewy left about it. It is, however, definitely crispy ...

TAKO (Taqueria Koreano) needs bulk pricing

Small clean place at the dingy foot of Stadium Skytrain Station (stadium exit). Things on the menu look reasonably priced to slightly expensive, except the tacos. Which are OK-sized but at almost $4 each, very pricey to put together a meal with, if you want any chance of actually having a filling meal. They said they were new and don't have bulk pricing yet. Tacos are standard size but only one taco shell each instead of the usual two. Fillings are light -- lighter than almost every other taco place I've tried -- but fluffy-ish so it looks like a good quantity. My Jeju Taco didn't overflow or squish out or tear through the shell because the fillings were wet when I pinched the shells together, so you don't really need two shells. Veggie options for tacos also really weak compared to many Mexican-ish taco places, so vegetarians should definitely look carefully at the online menu before going. Jeju Taco ($3.45) Spicy pork belly Tasted like nicely done shredded...

Kosoo $15 set lunch

Just back from lunch at the tucked-out-of-the-way from Robson street Korean restaurant, Kosoo . They offer an "eleven course" set menu for $15 per person. With minor variation, it is essentially as shown in the photograph they have in the window. The photograph shows a four (4)-person portion, and most of the pictures in this review are also for four persons. It is possible that if you are just two persons, or just one person, you may get slightly more of some items such as salads. The set course is prepared for 2 persons at a minimum, but they *may* be able to accommodate you if you want just a single order. I think it depends on whether there are other set menu orders going to the kitchen at the same time, because there is no need to order in pairs. If you are are 3 or 7 persons for example, they can accommodate. It is probably just not labour-efficient to make a single-person order. Spicy-hot sauces (not super-spicy, but enough to be noticeable)are part of the pre...

Morak Korean Restaurant

Morak is a cosy little place just off Kingsway. Shortly after 6pm it will probably be pretty busy, a situation which was made worse by their having just one server scrambling about. However, turnaround time for their food felt pretty fast. A2. Corn Cheese ($4.95) Shallow but wide sizzling hot plate keeps cheese melted and sears it where it contacts the plate. Sweet corn and lighty salty cheese. Interesting and quite tasty. A13. Seafood Pancake ($15.95) Pretty pricey but presumably it's because of the seafood. Kind of bland, so use the provided soy sauce I guess. Or just pass on this and try it elsewhere. H11. Gamjatang ($25.95) Pork Bone Soup with two bowls of rice Each extra bowl of rice is $2 (!) for a small bowl (i.e., not a lot). Big pot which you simply heat up to boiling. For basically $26 it's not a lot of meat or content, (probably because you are also paying for the gas can that fuels the portable stove). Overall, not that great a deal. Meat comes ...
